I do not blame people for the creation of this unsettlingly selfish society we live in, but I do blame us for the acceptance and allowance of it. The only thing in today’s society that matters is self advancement and success. Money no longer simply offers comfort or security, it’s new function is to achieve happiness and it’s new definition has become’success’. There are many generous, kind people in the world and I do not doubt the fact that their intentions are sincere, but as for selfless and sacrificing, there aren’t many at all. Our generation does not appreciate the morals and values that previous generations have upheld and managed to maintain. What happened to honesty, encouragement, love? Does anyone truly love anymore? Does love even exist? Well, I know what I’ve seen and what I’ve experienced and my observations lead me to believe that the scarcity of true love may not be in the truth of it’s existence, but in our lack of exposure to the truly selfless act of giving your entire self to another.

Whether it be friendship, family, or romance, we live in a society in which all people and relationships are disposable, reversable, and unappreciated. Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe that love, whatever it is, exists. What I do not believe in is the dissolution of love. I do not believe that if love is true and real it can just go away, but I do accredit this common misconception to people who are not willing to put others before themselves- an unfortunately large amount of people at this point in time. I refuse to believe that anyone who genuinely loves someone will not do anything in their power to make the other happy.True love is the utter refusal of allowing another to feel anything but content. True love is the pain you feel when another is unhappy. True love transcends all barriers- fault, fear, lies, doubt, insecurity, and needs no explanation.

I am a 19 year old girl who was raised comfortably and was provided opportunities most people only dream of, so why am I complaining about love? I’m not complaining about love,I’m addressing the neglected notion that our inability as co-inhabitors of this planet to put another before one’s self and accept the reality of love will ultimately lead to a disturbingly self-satisfying, and indefinitely violent and painful future for us all. I’ve witnessedinfidelity, abuse, addiction, abandonment, and each of these actions have entirely selfish motives resulting in self-gain. The only goal of love should be to make the other as content as possible and in return the gesture will be reciprocated, not because it is expected, but because it is warranted.

So maybe love actually is just a chemical reaction in the human body, or maybe it is this unexplainable and extraordinary connection between human beings, but I think that love is simply the word describing the actions and relationships of genuinely selfless people. Either way my generation’s values do not facilitate a loving environment or even the possibility of creating one, and that’s what scares me. It’s not the fact that love does not or may not exists, it’s the reality that even if it does it is becoming less and less attainable. How can we live in a world where the only genuine emotions are greed and gluttony and the only motivation is self-gain?

Maybe that’s what love is. Maybe love is much simpler than sacrifice and consideration. Maybe love is a sense of hope, a restoration of faith in humanity. The problem lies not in our capability to love, but in our willingness.

LGBTQ Identities Part I - Sexual Identities

• Heterosexual: Sexual attraction towards those of a different binary gender.
• Homosexual: Sexual attraction towards those of the same gender.
• Bisexual: Sexual attraction towards two genders or gender the same or different to yours.

There’s a lot of debating about my provided definition of bisexual. As of now, the definition of bisexuality is very, very subjective. Within the bisexual community (myself included) there are many who are attracted to non-binary individuals and still identify as bisexual.

The term pansexual has not always been around, and many bisexuals identified as bisexual even though the “proper” definition did not fit them as they liked.

Those of us who are attracted to non-binary people have since been fighting for the definition of bisexuality to include us, or at least include the provided definition as another or alternative.

This “wrong” definition of bisexuality was in fact created by bisexuals, not people who aren’t or people who “don’t understand bisexuality” or “are confused about terms.” 

• Pansexual: Sexual attraction towards all genders.
• Polysexual: Sexual attraction towards multiple genders.
• Skoliosexual: Sexual attraction towards genderqueer or non-binary people.
• Androsexuality: Sexual attraction towards men or masculinity.
  *Depending on the person they may use Androphilia. I’ve heard both used for 
• Gynesexuality: Sexual attraction towards women or femininity.
  *Depending on the person that may use Gynophilia.  

So, I’m sure most of you are familiar with a similar post that included several icons that had an identity and then a simple definition underneath it. Unfortunately that post was severely problematic. It had exclusive and erasing wording and had several definitions wrong with it.

I decided to create my own with more inclusive language, less erasive language, and proper definitions. (Though definitions can vary from region to region.) These icons are not all of the LGBTQ identities out there.There are limitless identities, and these are just some of the sexual identities that I know of.

This is also not the only one of these I’ll be doing. I’ll be creating more sets. One of which will be for asexual/demisexual/grey-a identities and another will be for gender identities. Stay tuned.

I’m very open to corrections and suggestions as long as they’re not rude.
